                      db , dbm, dbi units and conversion

db,dbm and dbi are the units to measure gain specially in the calculation and measurement of antenna design and wireless communication.

DB

it is the unit to measure gain of an antenna in logarithmic scale.
10log10^(p) where p is the power in watt
so many times db is abbreviated as dbw
 

DBM

it is the gain calculated over 1mw power
10log10^(p)/log10^1mw

DBI

gain with respect to isotropic point source or antenna
 
it is often desirable to convert one unit to another for calculating results in antenna design
